tbt what is it?

“How does TBT work?”

With TBT your board is flat where it needs to be flat and concaved where you don’t want it flat.

It’s flat between the bindings where you want the stability and control. It’s concaved on the widest part where want it loose. So it is loose and forgiving when you go straight (or land or butter) and you dont want the edges to be active on the nose and tail. But when you lift your edges in turns it gives you full edge contact again when you do need and want it.

“So your boards are not flat but what does that mean?”

It means that there is no board like a Bataleon board and no riding experience like the Triple Base experience. All other boards out there are flat. Yes, also those reversed camber things. Cuz when you stand on one of those it still goes flat. Only Bataleon boards are truly never flat. Bataleon was the first to come up with this simple but effective solution in board geometry. Now that everyone out there smelled the coffee and does their best to come up with simular solutions to counter the problem of a flat board which is not aggresive for freestyle it is time we explain why Triple Base Technology is still not like anything out there...

The main reason why nobody else has what we got is because we pattented our technology. All other solutions have some benefits over a convetional flat board but only Triple Base benefits your snowboarding on every level in all circumstances without any known negative side effects. The list of advantages is long and listed below but it comes down to this...

TBT IS BETTER FOR JUMPING
TBT IS BETTER FOR LANDING
TBT IS BETTER FOR CARVING
TBT IS BETTER FOR BUTTERING
TBT IS BETTER FOR NOT CATCHING AN EDGE
TBT IS BETTER FOR STRAIGHTLINING
TBT IS BETTER FOR HIGH SPEED RELAXING
TBT IS BETTER FOR FLOATIN OVER POW
TBT IS BETTER FOR RIDING SHORTER
TBT IS BETTER FOR HAVIN MORE FUN
TBT IS BETTER FOR TRAVERSING
TBT IS BETTER FOR RIDING FLAT TRACKS
TBT IS BETTER FOR RIDING SWITCH
TBT IS BETTER FOR 1080S
TBT IS BETTER FOR JIBBIN
TBT IS BETTER FOR RIDING MOGULS
TBT IS BETTER FOR MORE POP
TBT IS BETTER FOR PIPE
TBT IS BETTER FOR CRAILS
TBT IS BETTER FOR GOING EDGE TO EDGE
TBT IS BETTER FOR STRONG EDGE GRIP
TBT IS BETTER FOR RIDING FIRST TRACKS
TBT IS BETTER FOR FREESTYLE
TBT IS BETTER FOR FREERIDE
TBT IS BETTER FOR BEGINNERS
TBT IS BETTER FOR PROS
TBT IS BETTER FOR YOU

Yes TBT is basically better for all kinds of snowboarding. And yes we dare to say it is also better than the much hyped reversed camber which is better than completely flat but still not better then TBT. As TBT has all the advantages of reversed camber with out losing out on the advantages of camber like fast edgde to egde and more control at high speeds... So it's like reversed camber with camber and then better...

tbt advantages

IN TURNS...

SMOOTHER TURNS

When put under pressure in a tight turn a conventional board will always want to snap back to its original flat shape. A Triple Base board is already pre-shaped offering a smoother turn.

FASTER TURNS

Because a Triple Base board is preshaped at the widest parts of the board it will cause less ‘plowing’ than a conventional board, which tends to dig too deep at its widest points.

MORE EDGE GRIP

Because the Triple Base turns at less of an angle to the snow at the tip and tail the board will not dig in as deep as a ‘flat’ board. Because of released pressure on the widest points of the board there are less vibrations and the steel edge always keeps full contact with the snow resulting in better edge grip. The icier the conditions are, the better this board will perform compared to conventional ‘flat’ boards.

FASTER EDGE TO EDGE

From a flat position a TBT-board is at first tilted against the width at the waist only, making it easier to initiate a curve. It has the feel of a more narrow board. From one turn to another, the strong edge grip fades out and builds up again. Together with greatly reduced tendency for edge catch in the flat position these factors make edge-to-edge transitions way smoother.

GOING STRAIGHT...

STRAIGHT AS A RULER

When you go straight you don’t need as much effective edge as in a turn. In fact, it’s better to have less effective edge. A conventional board will always have the tendency to dig down in the snow at its widest points. This causes you to alternate between heelside and toeside pressure to remain in control when straight lining. With a Triple Base board all you do is point straight down and relax. Because the edges are lifted at the widest points of the board you hardly need to compensate for any sudden edge catching.

LESS EDGE CATCH

When going straight, you will only have active edge where you want it - between your feet. This is due to the lifted edges at the nose and tail. Less edge when going straight means less edge catching and less scorpions. Remember that only tilting the board 3 degrees gives you full edge contact when needed.

FASTER STRAIGHT LINES

Less edge = less drag = more speed. Less edge catch = more confidence = more speed. Because of the reduced angle to the snow at the tip and tail a Triple Base board has a softer (more streamlined) impact to the snow resulting in higher speeds especially in slushy conditions. No reason you shouldn’t win every race back to the lodge...

BIGGER AIRS

Straighter straightlines means straighter take-offs meaning bigger airs with straighter landings. How straightforward can that be?

TRANSITIONS...

SMOOTHER PIPE TRANNIES

On a conventional board you will loose a lot of speed going from vertical to horizontal as a conventional board tends to dig more aggressively into the wall. Because of the lifted edges a Triple Base board will dig less into the transition, offering a smoother and faster line to the vert.

EASIER PIPE RIDING

In the pipe, more speed up the wall means more air above the coping. With Triple Base boards you will discover it’s easier to go bigger in the pipe...

STICK MORE LANDINGS

On a conventional snowboard a slightly under rotated jump will often result in an out-of-control landing, or worse, a crash. Triple Base Technology gives you a lot more forgiveness in landings. Triple Base boards tend to go straight after landing even if you are a bit off balance or under rotated as the edges are less likely to dig in. The first thing to touch the snow is your base and not your tip or tail edge!

AND...

JIBTASTIC

Triple Base Technology makes you butter like a pro ‘cause it’s just so smooth.

FLOAT BETTER

The curved base means less angle to the snow at the nose and tail which provides better float in powder.

OLLIE HIGHER

More concave means more pop. It doesn’t just look concaved like a skateboard. It makes snowboarding more like skating

TRAVERSE FASTER

Because the preshaped concave shape makes riding on edge smoother it also means that you are more relaxed and faster on those long traverses trying to get to that powder field before all your buddies. More first tracks!

QUIVER OF ONE

A Triple Base Board is more versatile then a conventional board. You can ride a stiffer board and still have more forgiveness. You can ride longer boards with greater ease or ride shorter than you are used to and still have full control. You can even ride a wider board than you are used to and it will still feel narrow. TBT combines the best of both worlds, enabling you to ride all terrains with just one stick.

maintenance

Bataleon recommends using Wintersteiger machines for stonegrinding a Triple Base board. Wintersteiger* has several types of stonegrinding machines with a rubber coated cylindrical feeding wheel over the stone. The feeding wheel pulls the board over the stone, and at the same time presses it to the stone. The feeding wheel has 3 parts, which can easily be removed one at a time. To stonegrind a Triple Base board, 2 out of 3 parts of the feeding wheel must be removed. Only one part of the feeding wheel is in use.

*Reichmann also offers stonegrinding machines with this kind of feeding wheel

Maintenance 1

1. REMOVE 2 OF THE 3 FEEDING WHEELS

Maintenance 2

2. STONEGRINDING THE SIDE BASE

Position the remaining feeding wheel at one side of the machine. Run the board through the machine, allowing the remaining feeding wheel to press over the steel edge about 5 cm of the board. The rest of the wheel doesn’t touch the board. Avoid the feeding wheel pressing on the inside bend between the bases. Apply half of the pressure used for a flat board for front and rear sections of the side bases. Apply even less pressure on the flat section between the bindings.

Maintenance 3

3. STONEGRINDING THE SIDE BASE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE

Flip your board around and do the same thing for the other side of the board.

Maintenance 4

4. STONEGRINDING THE MIDDLE PART OF THE BASE

Place the feeding wheel in its middle position. Apply 40% of the pressure used for a flat board for front and rear section. Apply same pressure as with a flat board at the section bewteen the bindings where the board is flat from edge to edge.

don't believe us

It would be very naive of you to just believe everything we say. I mean do you really believe any manufacturer that is raving about their product? No off course not. When was the last time you heard some brand talking shit in their own product. But the thing is we really are convinced that Triple Base Technology is the best thing that happend to snowboard after putting edges on them. But what really counts is what all of the riders out there think. The ones that spend hard earned money on our boards. So here is your chance to tell us your honest experience with TBT. please leave a real email adress so we can verify if it really you and not some bitter sponsored PR/shit talker hired by the man...

My first Bataleon board is the new Airobic ===> It's an amazing board !!! Lot of pop, lot of fun. You can ride it like a skate ^^

01/01/2009 - Stek
I bought a Riot 155 and I fall in love with that... these is riding, and is not a dream!!!!Thank you Bataleon... I'm going back to riding! B...is for Bataleon.

01/01/2009 - Lauren
I absolutely love the TBT!!! Unfortunately my Distortia got stolen =( I want another one more than any other board to replace it, it rides so nicely!!

31/12/2008 - Matthias
I bought the Evil Twin last year. What can I say, it's a dream come true!! TBT for life!

30/12/2008 - Sander
Once you go b... you never go back!;) Yeah for it!

29/12/2008 - Jake
I got my first bataleon board (airobic) for christmas this year and holy shit its freakin amazing. As soon as i get enough money i think i might invest in an evil twin also, i see so many people riding them i gotta find out what the difference is. Bataleon customer for life!!

22/12/2008 - Rob Hamilton
I got a evil twin as an early crimbo pressie and i have to say its the best board I've ever riden, its so smooth and the graphics always make me laugh 10/10

19/12/2008 - Steve White
I bought a 2007 Evil Twin 159 second hand last year as a first board, Its not until I bought a new board this year that I realized just how easy to ride the twin is. The extra flex when learning turns is great and the TBT builds confidence on the flats as you seam to get a bit of warning before the edge catches and you can correct.
Great board... still riding it as much as my new board!

17/12/2008 - Wayne
Hi, I bought my first evil twin a few weeks ago now. Just after trying one at my local dome and i gotta say it's the best board i've ever rode! just love the TBT! I can't fault the evil twin one bit, i just love the board!! I've found that its stepped up my riding to the next level at the same time as having fun!!!!! thanks Bataleon

17/12/2008 - Jon Romana
I rode my brother's and I must say I haven't been so accurate in my moves ever. Great experience.

14/12/2008 - Martin
Hi, I demoed an evil twin on Friday night and all though the 155 I tried was a bit too big, I was totally sold on TBT. The moment that did it for me was when I landed at 90 degrees to the slope coming off a rail and somehow didn't catch an edge... awesome! Also, it felt much faster and more responsive than my all mountain board so that was an unexpected bonus. I went back the next morning and bought myself the 151 and I absolutely love it, best board I have ridden by miles.

11/12/2008 - Patrik Roma
Been Snowboarding for 10 years now bought myself the Jam, since a friend told me Bataleon rocked. From the very beginning of the day I felt i was on something new. It's such smooth riding... so save you never catch an edge... the board puts you on the edge you need itself. It's like f**king magic... Hope Bataleon Snowboards are made forever 'cause i'm not going back to the others... DONT CHOOSE ANY OTHER BRAND. B IS FOR BATALEON!!!

10/12/2008 - Tom
saw the evil twin last year in soldue and instantly fell in love. i knew it was the board for me and wanted to get one there and then, but had to save the cash for it. skip forward half a year and i have two weeks booked in heavenly, so i bit the bullit and got the new evil twin. i've tested it a few times at the snowdome and its lived up to all the hype. its so easy to ride, even after half a year off snow. only thing i'm not so fond of is the graphics. but hey its the board i wanted not the paint work!. if you haven't tryed a TBT board you should have a go. you'll never go back!

02/12/2008 - Matt Martel
Hey crew at Bataleon my name is Matt Martel just wanted to say how much i love the boards. here's my story: I first found out about Bataleons in NZ while working at cardrona. the whole park crew rode them, and i believe one of them was a rep. they raved about how sweet they were, and i tried to get hooked up with an evil twin but didn't have enough loot at that time. fast forward to this winter, with all the rage about rocker/banana techs out there, i do my research and decide that without trying it, TBT is the best, most sensible tech out there for snowboards. I'm from the east coast of canada and am now in BC working at a small resort. while back home, i convinced my friend who is now also at the same resort to get a Bataleon, in fact the same board (The Riot) , instead of wasting his hard-earned cash on a DC or a Lib Tech. So we both ordered our Riots from a small board shop, Outer Limit Sports, in PEI Canada, without demoing them or even seeing the boards in person. We are both incredibly stoked on them. First turns were weird, but exciting, but second runs had us saying "it's like snowboarding on a fighter jet" and "it feels like shaving with a 10 blade razor while driving a ferrari" and many other stupid but true quotes...

02/12/2008 - B Sinclair
I have the 07/08 Evil Twin and I love it to death, it made me spend a fortune going to the local snowzone again...why ? Because it made snowboarding that kinda of fun when you thought anything was possible, TBT brings that feeling back in truck loads. I can't now imagine riding anything else. Damn I love this stick !!!!! ;) Peace.

02/12/2008 - Toni PS
Last year I met my first Bataleon, The Jam in Les Arcs, and I'm still in love!

25/11/2008 - Joe Martin
I love my Goliath, however my girlfriend didn't.... until she saw the Distortia. She now LOVES my Bataleon and is praying Santa's bringing her a Bataleon for xmas!! the BEST brand on the market, I just don't understand why anyone would chose anything but a Bataleon? Yeah for it!!!

24/11/2008 - Ray L
Hills opened this weekend and I finally got to ride my new Fun.Kink. Wow, what a world of difference! The TBT is awesome. I definitely felt that the edge to edge was quicker and smoother, and the edge hold was great on turns. The soft flex was great for presses, and I felt more confident that I would avoid hangups doing board slides. Everyone should get a Bataleon!

23/11/2008 - Kyle Rossiter
TBT is the best thing since pre-marital sex. Ive been given the privilege of riding a Bataleon once or twice and it was amazing. snappy, responsive, lots of pop and buttered like crazy! so now its my turn to get a bataleon. This will be my first year owning one (if I can afford it) and Im super excited. I laughed at the post below mine about BTX. Reverse camber aint got nothin on TBT

19/11/2008 - Hugh
You guys are pissing off my girlfriend. I'm riding my Jam more than her's. snowboarding = flow = tbt, simple as that. Yeah for it!

18/11/2008 - Jordan
I have 3 boards - the Evil Twin, the Jam, the Goliath. I bought two and won one. I ride them all, LOVE them all. All this yellow makes me think Bataleon is going to go with the banana tech, which is maybe the only thing that would make it better (editor: that's a joke right Jordan?). Also, would be better if I could find Bataleon stickers ANYWHERE. So... Dudes, send me some stickers!

11/11/2008 - Matt
Just demo'd a Riot the other day. Get one. It's insane.

10/11/2008 - Tom
Have last years Goliath 157W and it is the best board I've riden, very closely followed by the Evil Twin I rode on a demo day (thanks to Tyler who took time out to watch us goof around and offer some advice).
Basically it's not hype but truth. You really do avoid edge catching and straight line with far more balance. If only I'd owned one a season earlier, I'd have saved myself pelvis damage.
Almost feels like cheating, if the technology is there..... Wouldn't own any other brand of board.

9/11/2008 - Pete
WOW what a board i have the 157 jam and it rocks makes me look like i have been riding 5yrs not 5mins! easy edge to edge and straight lining? EASY!!!!! just point and relax! but still waiting for my stickers guys?

7/11/2008 - Diego
I and my undisputed we are just waiting for the ice age.. there are no comparisons yeah4it.

31/10/2008 - Rob Burnett
Canadian Rep Scott gave me an evil twin to try out last year, I got like 15 days on it and I have been hyping every kid that steps into the shop about TBT...it is by far the best innovation in snowboarding to date...and I've been shredding for 15 years and slangin' boards at Freeride Boardshop for 8...I've seen a lot of "tech" come and go (from K2 clickers to I Lock) and TBT is here to stay.

28/10/2008 - Liz
hey guys, i've been riding your boards for two seasons now, this will be my third and i gotta say i've supported you since i first found your old old older website. i read up on tbt and decided to try it and i havent looked back since. only one thing i have to complain about. why the hell is it so hard to find enemy in 153 in canada? and keep up the good work. and better graphics next year. =)

24/10/2008 - Phil
I ride Bataleon since day one and I knew I will never ride flat base boards anymore. TBT rules!

24/10/2008 - Ryan Butler
The Eviltwin is hands down the best board I've ever owned. Thats why I went out and got another one this year. Triple base will improve your riding and make you have more friends.

21/10/2008 - Hero Man
I have been riding 18 years and test a lot of boards. Changes boards like every season before. I did buy a Bataleoan Hero some years ago and will ride my TBT still many years. The best by far.

19/10/2008 - Jonny
I went snowboard shopping today. I tried many boards, never quite finding what I wanted. Then I tried The Goliath. After one run on a crowded indoor slope, dodging skiers and children, I knew it was the board for me. Amazingly responsive, forgiving yet aggressive in all the right ways. It's now in my room.

09/10/2008 - Brock Warr
first rode the evil twin in New Zealand from the shop i worked there. so stoked, now getting them in to the new shop freeride kelowna. so pumped to see the kids rocking them at big white.

06/10/2008 - Mike
buying the fun kink this year... already landing bs ts 270 out and fs ts 270 out. sick son unnnhhh takin it out west this season gonna shred handrails a little to hard.

01/10/2008 - Joe Battaglia
first i skied, then boarded, then skied, then saw a bataleon and wanted it... so i got the 08 goliath... i was shedding like never before on my first run on a board in 3 years.

23/09/2008 - Tim
TBT is great! Yeeeah for it! But you should really add some 159 that are a bit narrower than 26cm in the middle, cause with EURO 42 it is really hard to get power to the edges.

22/09/2008 - Alex Amin
I love my Riot! ...and it seems mutual. It's almost like skateboarding or maybe not. I used to be all into gay music, but thanks to the Riot, it's all about speed metal! Thank you Bataleon for making a real man out of me. Alex Amin.

07/09/2008 - Alar
Got myself the Evil Twin from last year, a sick board, really has improved my riding. It took like 2 hours to get used to but after that i never even wanted to look back at at flat based board, easy to stick tricks, kill rails and not yourself.
The sickest part is that all of my friends who've tested the Evil Twin are going to get Bataleon boards, some already have... Sick stuff.

07/09/2008 - jon scott
I bought an enemy as my first board. its smooth, fast, tight, great pop, and I killed my first butters, kickers etc... great board. just trying to find the right bindings now. Any suggestions? J.

07/09/2008 - Marco Brilli
Hallo :) i use tbt from 3 years and i think is the best tecnology in the last 10 years about the snowboard.

06/09/2008 - Karlos
Ride the enemy. It is the nuts. Simple as that. Runs off piste brilliantly and rips aparts the pistes. Get one. Or be bored. //K

04/09/2008 - Luca Bianucci
I have a Hero, and it's the most fun board I ever had till now. No comparison with any other brand. Superb feeling, faster rides, I improved my jumps but what's more I really enjoyed my snowboarding a lot more.
Now I'm about to buy an EvilTwin. No really, I won't use flat boards no more ;-)
I'm enthusiastic, so, really, thanks a lot.
Luca - From Italy
